Successfully implementing an automation program requires an Agile approach with a Center of Excellence (COE). The COE should collaborate with business stakeholders to identify areas where automation can provide value and establish a Scrum framework to manage quick wins through iterative sprints and efforts. The COE should design and develop the solution iteratively, build reusable automation capabilities, and test with continuous feedback. Deployment and ongoing support should prioritize customer collaboration and self-reflection to build a sustainable program that can adapt to changing business needs. All in all, following an Agile-inspired approach for success.

Beyond the above, I can recommend taking an entrepreneurial approach and treating your COE like a start-up where you drive the business and value while enabling and empowering your business users. Don’t forget to celebrate the big and small return on hours with them. In the end, it’s about the people and you have to take them on the journey!
