It’s time we talked about APIs. You may want to sit down for this one…
Let’s talk about those APIs everyone, including myself, talks about and uses, however, we all may not be seeing the whole picture. I wanted to present this concept within a carousel to explain the points better.
If you want a quick summary here it is:
The point is that your company’s APIs are ‘potentially’ not being maintained and controlled. If this is true, then you will have API leakage. You won’t know when, and you might not even know how, however, what I can tell you is that the typical IT response is ‘we change our API keys every 6-12 months.’
Leakage happens primarily due to an accident, an email, a copy, and paste, or a screen share with an outside party, vendor, etc. A vendor or partner company you may be working with can also be a source of API leakage.
The overall point is that the more we all know the more we can prevent issues like this from occurring. Lastly, it’s also something automation can help with. Looking for examples click the arrow to the right.
