The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping battlefield outcomes, much like business outcome’s, AI and GenAI have become increasingly paramount. As countries and organizations like the United States Department of Defense (DOD) continue the journey into the digital age, the integration of AI into military operations globally is pivotal for maintaining decision superiority and ensuring mission success.
Sadly no one ever wins in war, and at times it seems that the bystander or potential observers can take the brunt of it. That being said, it’s better to be informed and to have knowledge of where this potential future is heading.

Scenario:
Amidst escalating tensions in a volatile region, a forward operating base (FOB) receives intelligence indicating an imminent enemy incursion along a strategic border. The commander, tasked with safeguarding against potential threats, relies on a network of autonomous agents to gather intelligence, plan responses, and execute operations with precision.
Utilization of Autonomous Agents:
1. Superior battlespace awareness and understanding:
Autonomous agents continuously monitor the surrounding area using a combination of surveillance drones, ground sensors, and satellite imagery. Upon detecting suspicious activity near the border, these agents alert the commander and provide real-time updates on the situation.
2. Adaptive force planning and application:
In response to the emerging threat, adaptive force planning agents analyze the available data and recommend strategic adjustments to troop deployments and defensive positions. Based on their recommendations, the commander positions reinforcements to counter the anticipated threat effectively.
3. Fast, precise, and resilient kill chains:
As the enemy incursion unfolds, kill chain agents come into play, orchestrating and aligning on precise strikes against high-value targets identified by reconnaissance assets. Automated verification processes can enable clarity here to ensure target accuracy and guard against the possibility of false positives.

Behind the front lines, sustainment support agents manage logistics and supply chains, ensuring that troops have access to essential resources, including ammunition, fuel, and medical supplies. Automated auditing processes can be developed to verify the integrity of supply deliveries and detect any anomalies that may indicate tampering or sabotage.
