So AT&T just released a patent to create… I’m just going to call it a Quantum Pager!

Yes, it is a real patent. Is it a real pager, well ‘not yet’ but who knows it sounds interesting. Let me know what you think. It caught my eye so I thought I would share it.

AT&T is showing that they are performing cutting-edge research around quantum technologies that has led to the development of a groundbreaking quantum entanglement communication service/device.

How does it work? Here’s a brief overview:

1️⃣ A receiving device initiates a data access request to a transmitting device, which may contain sensitive information.

2️⃣ The transmitting device generates a request to a server computer, employing the power of quantum entanglement. The server computer generates entangled particle pairs, typically photons in an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) entangled state or Bell state particles.

3️⃣ One particle from each entangled pair is provided to the transmitting device, while the other particles are delivered to the receiving device.

4️⃣ The receiving device begins the authentication process using quantum entanglement. It interacts with each bit of a token with the corresponding entangled particle, utilizing controlled NOT (CNOT) and Hadamard gates, followed by measurement. The measurement data captures the observed state of the system.

5️⃣ The measurement data is transmitted back to the transmitting device, which determines the appropriate operation to perform on its entangled particles based on the received data.

6️⃣ The transmitting device performs the determined operation on its entangled particles and measures their state. The resulting bit string is stored as the token.

7️⃣ The transmitting device can utilize this bit string to authenticate the receiving device via an authentication service. Upon successful authentication, the sensitive data can be securely transmitted from the transmitting device to the receiving device.
