In 2021, I spoke at UiPath’s #forward IV on the topic of maintenance, fault tolerance, and self-healing methods. I have found many successes with taking a more proactive approach and it led to a much higher and easily achieved ROI – Return on Investment for the companies and businesses I have worked with.
Although I see that taking a proactive approach is key. I can say that managing and leading a COE – Center of Excellence is also just as important. The reason I am bringing this up now (2) years later is that maintenance is still a massive issue for many automation teams.
Keeping up with software updates, third-party site changes, and process updates can be a full-time job in itself. That’s why it’s important to stay vigilant and be prepared for sudden changes.
One area that often requires attention is Microsoft’s Patch’s, which is released on a regular basis to address security vulnerabilities and other issues. But it’s not just Microsoft updates that can cause headaches. Third-party sites can also undergo sudden layout changes that can break your automation.
To mitigate these risks, it’s important to monitor third-party sites and be prepared for sudden layout changes. This can be accomplished through automated testing, or by testing the critical path of business-critical applications. By being proactive, you can avoid costly downtime and ensure that your automation continues to run smoothly.
So, my fellow automation enthusiasts, let’s stay vigilant and keep our automation efforts up-to-date!
Anyway, that’s my two cents on automation maintenance.
