So you are ready to look at Digital Transformation you have some ideas, yet you want some new perspectives and a new way to look at it. Ok, let me see if I can help.

According to Conway’s Law, businesses are forced to create application designs that are exact replicas of their communication systems. This frequently causes unwanted points of friction.

(mainly since now companies are more modular and are not focused on one service or one customer)

In order to support your chosen architecture, the “Inverse Conway Maneuver” advises evolving your team and organizational structure. Your business architecture and your technology architecture should ideally be isomorphic in nature.

(Again, although not a bad idea, especially for looking at the future or how to have an organization go through a digital transformation this too can cause organization friction the other way where your business users get lost in the mix.)

In the end, when looking to create your digital transformation within your company or organization. I do believe in having a solid Center of Excellence – COE that is understanding and involvement with the leadership targets and goals, yet is also driving the conversations, methods, templates, and governance. You can then build a supportive yet brave environment where learning as well as innovation can happen. Yes, you will have mistakes, and those mistakes should be called out openly without fear of loss, shame, or thought of losing one’s job.

Simply put yes Digital Transformation is about people, but if you show you don’t care about the people or catch them if they fall… Then you won’t have people left to make this change.

Another view is Digital Transformation using (ACT):
1.      Digital Alignment – creates digitally savvy users
2.      Digital Clarity – creates digital literate users
3.      Digital Trust – creates trust in the data, the users, and the outcomes

So then what’s the correct way to do this? Well, it starts with people, because without them there is no culture
