The question to Elon was “How do you motivate others”.

The answer was:

#1 Promote innovation, don’t promote those who lack innovation. *of course, not every role requires innovation.

#2 “Failure must be an option” “If failure is not an option it will result in extremely conservative choices.” *You may get something worst then lack of innovation. “Things may go backward”.

So true. The ability to fail and learn from failure has been understood for some time now as a direct driver of innovation. The key to it all is of course learning from the failure or failed attempt.
