Imagine two wolves representing automation and AI are both crucial in the journey to building an Autonomous Enterprise. Just like the Cherokee story, these “𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬” must be fed, but the way we feed them is different.

𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟
This wolf thrives on clear rules and processes. It’s the reliable, task-driven side of your enterprise, handling repetitive operations with precision. Feed it with defined rules, consistent inputs, and clear goals, and it will execute flawlessly.

However, neglect it, fail to update processes or provide clear data, and it becomes rigid, unable to adapt or grow.

𝐀𝐈: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟
This wolf is different. It’s the learner, the explorer, constantly evolving. It needs to be fed with rich data, context, and training. Unlike automation, AI doesn’t just follow orders it learns from patterns, behaviors, and outcomes.

But if you starve it of quality data or human insight, it becomes unpredictable, sometimes even dangerous.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞: 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝?

The truth is, both wolves need feeding. Automation ensures efficiency and consistency, while AI offers intelligence and adaptability. Choosing to feed only one leads to imbalance: over-reliance on automation stifles innovation, and unmanaged AI introduces chaos.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲:

• Automation keeps the system reliable.

• AI drives the system forward.

As leaders, we must ensure each gets what it needs not just to survive, but to thrive. Remember, it’s not about choosing one wolf over the other; it’s about feeding them both with intention and purpose.
