Some conversations stick with you long after they’re over. Getting the chance to speak with De Kai was one of those moments last night in San Francisco!
De Kai’s work has shaped how we interact with AI more than most people realize, his early innovations in machine translation paved the way for tools like Google Translate. It curates our reality, reinforcing biases and shaping perceptions by deciding what information is surfaced and what remains hidden. The result? A world where free will feels like a choice, but in reality, it’s often an illusion.
But here’s the real question: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐀𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞?

This is the kind of AI we should be building, AI that helps us choose better, rather than choosing for us.
