AI and automation promise efficiency, yet without a clear strategy, they can just as easily create confusion. The biggest pitfall? ๐ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ฆ๐ฒ.
Before leading any AI initiative, ask: ๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฐ๐ ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ ? ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐โ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐๐ข๐๐ข๐๐ง๐๐ฒ? ๐๐ก๐๐ญโ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐? If youโre not tracking processes now, you wonโt understand the value later. AI doesnโt just automate work, it amplifies whatโs already there, good or bad.
We saw this play out in the early days of LLMs, when many believed that simply adding RAG models would deliver instant ROI. Yet, without measuring how teams were already accessing and using data, there was no way to quantify the actual impact. If you donโt know how much time or effort was spent searching for information before AI, how can you prove the improvement after? ๐๐๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ข๐๐, ๐๐ฎ๐ญ ๐จ๐ง๐๐.
Peter Drucker said it best, โ๐ผ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ข ๐๐๐โ๐ก ๐๐๐๐ ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ก, ๐ฆ๐๐ข ๐๐๐โ๐ก ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ก.โ Rushing into automation without clear metrics leads to wasted effort, costly mistakes, and no real proof of impact. AI agents need to be tracked, tuned, and audited. If youโre not measuring, youโre not managing.
The companies that get this right will move fast. The ones that donโt will be stuck trying to figure out what they actually gained, if anything at all.
