It’s time to disrupt an issue that impacts all of us daily to the point that it is disruptive itself.
What is it… Its MEETINGS!
I’m not saying that we get rid of meetings! I firmly believe there is value in them, however, the issue with meetings is lost time! Time in action items and time in creating actionable accountability.
It so happens that this issue is being talked about. One of the most recent posts was from Elon Musk.
Elon’s three meeting rules
1. “Please get [rid] of all large meetings, unless you’re certain they are providing value to the whole audience, in which case keep them very short.”
2. “Also get rid of frequent meetings, unless you are dealing with an extremely urgent matter. Meeting frequency should drop rapidly once the urgent matter is resolved.”
3. “Walk out of a meeting or drop off a call as soon as it is obvious you aren’t adding value. It is not rude to leave, it is rude to make someone stay and waste their time.”
Again, there is value in a good meeting. I have even seen good things come out of a bad meeting. In an article written by Nicholas Sonnenberg that I will link to in the comment below. He talks about ‘The 4 ways to reduce the cost of a meeting’. I added my own perspective of course
The 4+1 = 5 ways to reduce the cost of a meeting
When you break it down, there are only four +1 more ways to reduce the cost of a meeting:
1. Eliminate it entirely.
2. Reduce the number of people.
3. Reduce its duration.
4. Reduce its frequency (if it’s a recurring meeting).
5. AUTOMATE IT!
So, let’s explain it. By inviting a Bot to a meeting we could automate this, we can capture potentially lost knowledge and actionable items while building in quality into a daily routine. The automation will save this by transcribing your meeting notes, capturing actionable items, and then having that action item list sent out automatically to the attendees. This automation will also provide a way to enable visibility in the meetings due to the captured metrics. What this now does is that it answers if that weekly meeting is a value add or just a time sink. Maybe the meeting isn’t a good meeting due to the agenda items, or topic, or… maybe it’s that one guy… So those 4 +1 =5 ways to reduce meetings it’s all here, you have the value, the need, the details, and understanding with the data in hand and the ability to ACT (Alignment Clarity, & Transparency) on it. In simple terms, I think that would count as automating it at least to some degree.
What are your thoughts, and what if I told you Gong.io and UiPath already use this technology? Maybe they will read this and work out a deal to provide this same interaction to others.
Or should we challenge a third-party vendor to make it happen? I know I would love to see this and use it.
