The Good, the Bad, and the Bot?

I am hearing some interesting talks about Good Bots and Bad Bots. Bots can be treated as digital workers that mimic human activities, where they often complete highly repetitive processes. These automated processes can be completed more quickly, accurately, and efficiently than their human counterparts.

Automation has been a hot topic in most corporations and enterprises, especially for the last few years. It’s no surprise with the push for #digitaltransformations , as well as looking to bring about better #worklifebalance for their employees, that enterprises are looking to automation as a sort of #changeagents.

More and more automation companies are coming online daily, however, there are a few platform leaders who still hold the top spots for usability, ease of use, and process orchestration. In 2021 we saw more of the larger enterprise leaders creating or bringing in their own type of automation solution. Once enterprises saw the use of #roboticprocessautomation – #RPA and the network effects it produced while touching the enterprise’s People, Processes, and Technology. There was a strong push to produce #lowcode, even #nocode automation capabilities.

What #lowcodenocode created as a byproduct of this effort to streamline activities, also has its own good and bad side. Low-code & no-code options are good for business users since it is easier and requires less knowledge or experience in coding/programming. Alternativly, it ends up being bad since bad actors can use this same ease of use to create #exploits and use #Bots to then deploy those exploits very quickly.

The chance of bad actors to deploy Bot automations to do harm or exploit a business or enterprise is increasing as well.

Over at HUMAN they are seeing 77% of all internet exposures are carried out by bots, “Human Security” Home page 20 Dec, 2021, https://lnkd.in/gStaU-F9

While attending a Chief Information Security Officer – CISO conference. Many Information Security firms are looking to block many if not all Bot interactions, good, bad, or other. This can create new hurdles or adverse situations for the good bots. Furthermore, this could land right in your RPA team’s lap where they would then need to build or create new efforts, or build in new variables so that their current production processes do not fail, or become blocked due to some of these upcoming changes.

Its better to be aware than unaware. For those of us in the RPA space lets make sure our good bots, stay good so that they don’t get exploited and turned into bad bots.

Firms like HUMAN are doing great work and it was fantastic talking to their team. Thier use of #ai, #ml, and understanding behavior patterns around bot mechanics was very enlightening.
