Vetoed | SB 1047

In announcing the veto, Newsom criticized the bill for potentially “curtailing the very innovation that fuels advancement in favor of the public good.” He also said it would have needlessly regulated AI used in low-risk situations and that it was written without enough research.

Yet…

Newsom added that he will work with the Legislature and others to “find the appropriate path forward, including legislation and regulation” to address AI risks.

Opponents argued that the bill would harm the state economy and AI industry. They included Google, Meta, OpenAI, and eight members of the California congressional delegation. The California Chamber of Commerce praised the veto , saying the legislation would have put “California’s place as the global hub of innovation at tremendous risk.”

All of the above is from this link which if your interested is a good read. Many disagree with this veto.

However, again this shouldn’t be a political issue. It should be a discussion on the future and with the lens of human first. But again and to my points earlier in the month as the governor Newsom is beholden to California and this bill would have potentially severely hurt that stance.

Do we need regulation? Yes 💯%, but we need it also to make sense without being 2 years behind so and being pushed by those that do not reside within California as one would think it would be a “conflict of interest”.

Step 1 – Speed up the process of legislation to get ahead or keep up. Bring in the right people, support those people with legal experts, and win 🏆 it’s fairly as simple as that.

I would even throw my hat 🧢 in the mix to assist in this effort. I’ll even help draft the first AI Bill of Rights in California too.
