When we are calling for #aiethics… maybe we first need to start with #humanethics…
AI and GenAI, are getting a lot of the blame lately, maybe for enabling cheating, and even for potential job loss. However, what if these new innovations were just the excuse that certain corporations were waiting for. I won’t name the two corporations involved in the below, but sadly I’m not surprised…
With the rise of generative AI and evolving corporate strategies, companies increasingly rely on third-party vendors to manage risks and scale, rather than hiring directly. This practice often disadvantages contract workers, who typically earn less and yearn for permanent roles and recognition. Despite a common belief that contractors are better compensated, many receive low wages, even for jobs requiring significant experience. This is a global issue, not confined to any single country, and existing legal frameworks struggle to keep pace.
In response, I’m building towards, and I’m advocating for the revival of professional guilds. These guilds would empower workers by promoting knowledge, encouraging proactive engagement, and providing continuous learning opportunities. This approach seeks to create a more equitable work environment where both companies and workers can prosper.
